Dorothy Mae Dunn Crank went safely home to join her Heavenly Father at the age of 89, surrounded by many of her family, Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 9:03 pm, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville, Illinois. She was born to Curtis M. Dunn and Ida Francis Lane Dunn on September 3, 1918. Her siblings were Rosa Lee Smith, Margie Marie Baker, Gladys Davis, and Efford Ray (Red) Dunn. Dorothy married Gilbert Franklin Crank on June 12, 1943 in Harlan, Kentucky. She raised 14 children, Anna Janette Ferguson, John Clifford Crank, Dolores Jean Rich, Bobby Gilbert Crank, Edith Carol Thornbury, Sarah Francis Rowe, Sondra June Metcalf, Stora Evanna Felix, George Curtis Crank, Susan Judith Thornbury, Glenn Franklin Crank, Sheila Dawn Chestnut, Gary Charles Crank & Grayland Thomas Crank. Following the blessings of such a large family, she continued to be blessed with 60 grandchildren, 103 great grandchildren and 37 great, great grandchildren through five generations of family.
Stora Felix, her daughter, and friend Tony Rouse were her most recent caretakers. They were blessed with her presence and love, along with her children Kenneth (Tracy) Overshiner, Curtis (Tanya) Overshiner, Ronald (Shanna) Felix all of Danville, Illinois and Todd (Dawn) Felix of Tacoma, Washington. Sheila Chesnut, another daughter of Danville, Illinois and her children, Jeremy, Troy, Heather and Matt will greatly miss her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, her daughters, Janette and Edith, and numerous grandchildren, the most recent being Tony Crank of California.
Sister Crank served the Lord and blessed many through her teachings, building of churches, ministries of music and constant serving of the Lord through her everyday presence. She was known to talk with her smile and the brightness of her eyes. To know her was to love her. She held many employment positions as Pastor, Teacher, Music Instructor, and Church of God State President of the Kentucky Ladies Willing Worker Band, Quilter and the Rest-Stop Missionary. Pastor Dorothy Crank was mostly known as the wife of Pastor Gilbert Franklin Crank and Mamma Crank a friend to whoever crossed her path.
The celebration of her life will begin at the visitation Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 6:00 pm and continue on the following day at the funeral services Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Lakes Funeral Home in McKee, Kentucky. Condolences may be sent to www.lakesfuneralhomemckee.com.
